Now is the right time

IT'S CUT: Jim Gillespie, president and chief executive officer of Coldwell Banker Real Estate handles the ribbon after it is cut by developer Greg Gust. They were celebrating the opening of Arcadia Highlands, a residential development on Lake Michigan just south of Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club. (Dave Yarnell/News Advocate)

ARCADIA - "It's the right time" was the message the speakers delivered Friday at noon at the ribbon cutting for the new residential development Arcadia Highlands, located between M-22 and Lake Michigan just south of Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club.

"This is an absolutely fabulous project," said Jim Gillespie, president and chief executive officer of Coldwell Banker Real Estate, who was in Manistee County from his office in New Jersey. "The timing of this project is perfect. We've been in the doldrums for the past four years, but we are seeing things turn around."

The development is a project of the local Coldwell Banker office, A.L.M. Realty and Associates of Manistee.

"We've seen some very positive signs," Gillespie said of the national real estate market. "When real estate moves, the economy comes right after it."

"In these trying times, Manistee County is standing out on its own," said Renee Ihlenfeldt, executive director of the Alliance for Economic Success. She pointed to the successes of MasTech Manufacturing, Glen's Market, and 10-West Studios. "I know people out there are struggling, but Manistee County is truly standing above the crowd."

"I would like to recognize the Millers and Bradfords, since this is their property we are developing," said Gust. "We want to introduce this project as a community. This really is our vision, a community built on preservation, using green principles and preserving the grounds and resources."

Plans call for single family homes and townhouse condominiums; a clubhouse with an outdoor pool, recreation facilities, and meeting rooms; and a three-hole practice golf course.

"We're not the west coase most people know, but we're West Michigan and we're proud to be here," Gust continued. "This has been a fantastic opportunity for my partner and I."

Further information on the project is available at the website www.arcadiahighlands.com.

Manistee Recognized by OUTDOOR LIFE Magazine

Manistee is ranked #1 in the lower Peninsula of Michigan among the 200 Best Towns for Sportsmen in the U.S, with an overall rank of #71 out of 200.

Don’t take my word for it. Credit for this ranking goes to OUTDOOR LIFE, June/July 2009 issue for their research on the 200 BEST towns for Sportsmen.. Now in fairness to our other half, the UPPER Peninsula, Marquette, Mi. ranked an AWESOME #2. However, the population of Michigan clearly sits below the bridge and MANISTEE has everything to be proud of.

This is the 2nd survey OUTDOOR LIFE has done, and they wanted to provide sportsmen and women, with the top 200 affordable, thriving, and perfectly wild towns in America. Written by John Taranto, it is a must read for anyone considering their next move, especially if you are nearing retirement. On the other hand, why not work where you love to vacation?

All of these towns offer affordable housing, low unemployment and the potential to earn a decent living within a short drive of FIRST RATE hunting and fishing.

Not news to me! The researcher measured “population percentage growth, median household income, median home value, cost of living, unemployment rate, mean commune time”. And a measurement of outdoors categories, such as, “gun-friendliness, huntable and fishable species nearby, town’s proximity to public hunting”…..the list goes on.

Pick up a copy and read all about it.

Christmas Party 2008

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Although the New Year has already snuck upon us, Coldwell Banker A.L.M. ended their 2008 year with the annual Christmas Party.

Sunday, December 21st, owner Mike Cnudde, along with all the agents and staff of Coldwell Banker gathered together at The Bungalow Inn for a night of great food and fun. After being served a wonderful dinner by the Bungalow staff, everyone took part in the Chinese auction, which is a Coldwell tradition. Each and every person gave and received a gift, and shared a lot of laughter while doing so.

Coldwell Banker A.L.M.'s 2008 Christmas party was a huge success! Thank you to The Bungalow Inn for allowing us to use your facilities and for such a tasty dinner. Here are a few pictures taken throughout the night.

Best of luck to all in 2009!
