ARCADIA - "It's the right time" was the message the speakers delivered Friday at noon at the ribbon cutting for the new residential development Arcadia Highlands, located between M-22 and Lake Michigan just south of Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club.

"This is an absolutely fabulous project," said Jim Gillespie, president and chief executive officer of Coldwell Banker Real Estate, who was in Manistee County from his office in New Jersey. "The timing of this project is perfect. We've been in the doldrums for the past four years, but we are seeing things turn around."

The development is a project of the local Coldwell Banker office, A.L.M. Realty and Associates of Manistee.

"We've seen some very positive signs," Gillespie said of the national real estate market. "When real estate moves, the economy comes right after it."

"In these trying times, Manistee County is standing out on its own," said Renee Ihlenfeldt, executive director of the Alliance for Economic Success. She pointed to the successes of MasTech Manufacturing, Glen's Market, and 10-West Studios. "I know people out there are struggling, but Manistee County is truly standing above the crowd."

"I would like to recognize the Millers and Bradfords, since this is their property we are developing," said Gust. "We want to introduce this project as a community. This really is our vision, a community built on preservation, using green principles and preserving the grounds and resources."

Plans call for single family homes and townhouse condominiums; a clubhouse with an outdoor pool, recreation facilities, and meeting rooms; and a three-hole practice golf course.

"We're not the west coase most people know, but we're West Michigan and we're proud to be here," Gust continued. "This has been a fantastic opportunity for my partner and I."
